DEAR SUN SPOTS: It’s that time again! At Applewald Farm at 525 Huntington Road in Litchfield, we are collecting formal wear, jewelry, and new makeup for the Rainbow Ball weekend for LGBTQIA youth in Maine, which is organized by OutMaine every spring.

This is a meaningful weekend event that includes amazing classes, important connections and a big dance. If you have anything that you would like to donate, please send me a message for drop-off directions. I’ve had the privilege to organize this free boutique for many years, and it’s my favorite part of the year. We especially need larger sized dresses and dress shoes.

All extras will be offered locally after the event, but unfortunately, that won’t be until mid-May. If you know someone in need of formal wear before then, please message me and we will do our best to help. — Cindy, Litchfield

ANSWER: I really like to support this spring event and have been a loyal customer of Applewald Farm for as long as I can remember. If you can, show both the farm and the youth participating in the weekend event some love by donating items that they can wear to prom. Surely, you have a spare sparkly item or two in your jewelry box or closet!

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Hartford Heritage Society at the J & O Irish Museum on Main Street (Route 140) in Hartford will host its annual plant sale May 9, the day before Mother’s Day, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

All perennials are $3 and larger plants and shrubs are $5. We will also have lots of garden-related raffle items inside the museum, along with hot coffee and snacks.

We’re always looking for plants for our sale. As you work in your gardens this spring, if you have any extras plants, we would love to have them. We can also come and dig them up for you. The proceeds go toward the upkeep and repairs of the museum.

You can call Rosie at 597-2270 or Doreen at 224-7147. Thank you in advance for  your patronage to the restoration of the museum and participating in our fundraising projects.

Thank you also to Ms. Sun Spots for all your great work in getting the information out to the public. You keep us all informed of fun things that are going on around us and you are greatly appreciated. Keep up the good work. — No name, Hartford

ANSWER: I’m always happy to help promote these fundraisers and I’m so grateful to all those volunteers who keep these fine Maine traditions going year after year.

The J & O Irish Museum is open in July and August from 1-4 p.m. for tours or by appointment.
