Students at Poland Community School went back to classes Monday after the building was closed for five days due to water damage.

Amy Hediger, Regional School Unit 16 superintendent, posted on Facebook Monday morning that the school passed its final inspection and students could return.

Students are occupying the single-story section of the building. Hediger posted on Facebook Friday that the two-story section of the school may not be usable for at least a few weeks.

The water damage started in a custodial closet on the second floor on the weekend of April 5-6. School officials have not released details on the actual cause of the water leak. About 35 spaces in the school were damaged, with the first floor getting most of the damage.

When it was clear students would not be able to use the school last week, parents were encouraged to come to the school and pick up learning packets and bagged lunches prepared by school staff to have at home while the school was closed.
