LEWISTON — Bill Connors, known as The American Elton, will make a stop at the Franco Center on Friday, April 24, for a show that captures “the magic and energy of Elton’s legendary hits, leaving audiences singing along,” organizers say.

Connors’ tribute to Elton John includes dazzling costumes, spot-on vocals, and electrifying piano playing, organizers say. “Fans at an American Elton show can often forget they are not seeing the man himself.”

The show runs from 7-9 p.m. Tickets are $30 in advance, $35 at the door. Doors open at 6 with a cash bar.

MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Community Players will present Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “The Sound of Music” from April 16-26 at Cumston Hall.

Under the direction of Vanessa Glazier, the musical tells the classic tale of a young postulant nun who, on the eve of World War II, becomes a governess for the von Trapp family, bringing joy and music to their strict household and endearing herself to the children.

“The Sound of Music,” which is based on the true story of the Von Trapp Family Singers, won a gaggle of awards on stage and screen for the production and the music.

FARMINGTON — The Old South Church will be the stage for a performance by JUNO-nominated powerhouse duo Cassie and Maggie on Friday, April 24, from 7-9 p.m.

The musicians, with over 17 combined awards and nominations from Canadian Folk Music, East Coast Music, and Music Nova Scotia, will unleash their “unstoppable force on the global folk stage,” according to organizers.

A ‘Runaway Train’ shouldn’t stop you from seeing Soul Asylum acoustic in Gardiner

GARDINER — Soul Asylum’s Pirner and Ryan Smith will perform an intimate, one-of-a-kind acoustic set at Johnson Hall Opera House on Friday, April 24, from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

Soul Asylum’s special guest will be Corey Glover.

The Grammy Award-winning and multi-platinum-selling rock band have released 13 albums and is behind the Grammy-winning song “Runaway Train,” the music video of which brought nearly two dozen missing and exploited children and teens around the world home to their families.

Gallant offers an up-tempo guitar style, a mix of originals and interpretations of contemporary music, according to event organizers.

Dash or strut with your best friend in Lewiston

LEWISTON — On Sunday, April 26, the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society will hold its annual Dash For Dogs 5K & Strutt Your Mutt Dog Walk fundraiser.

The event is centered at the society’s headquarters at 55 Strawberry Ave. Preregistration opens at 8 a.m. The walk and run begin at 9 a.m. At 10:15 a.m. there will be an awards ceremony, a raffle drawing and prizes for best dressed pet and biggest fundraiser.

The scenic 5K winds along the beautiful Androscoggin River path to Sunnyside Park before looping back on what organizers say is “a perfect route for participants and pups of all fitness levels.”

This event is held to support the animals at the GAHS and to celebrate Active Dog Month.
