Ruth Ann Peters

AUBURN – Ruth Ann Peters, a longtime resident of Auburn, was delivered into the hands of the Lord on April 17, 2026, after a courageous battle with dementia at the age of 83.

She was born on April 15, 1943, in Lewiston to Geraldine Cote and George Deletetsky. Ruth moved to Auburn shortly after, where she met and married the love of her life, Norman J. Peters. They settled down together on Garfield Road and grew their happy family.

Ruth was a kind and affectionate woman, always ready to help others. In the early years of her marriage, she stayed home and spent many summers looking after her children as well as their friends and cousins. She loved spending time with the children outdoors; whether it be swimming at East Auburn Beach, enjoying long nature walks, or having a picnic on the back lawn. Even when the kids were otherwise occupied, she chose to spend her time outdoors, tending to her garden, venturing out on boat rides to take in the Maine air, or driving miles to catch a glimpse of her favorite animal, the moose. Her affinity for moose could be seen all throughout the house in her vast collection of stuffed moose animal toys and ceramic collectibles.

She is survived by her children, Lori, Debbie, Patty, and Michael; her sisters Beverly, Donna, and Judy, her brother, Paul; her five wonderful grandchildren; and three beautiful great-grandbabies.

She was predeceased by her loving and devoted husband, Norman, that passed away August 2019; as well as her clever brother, Leon, who, always seeking a smile, will ask, “what took you so long to get up here?”

At the families’ request, there will be a small gathering in late June to pay our respects to our beloved Ruth. She is already deeply missed but will live on in our hearts forever.

The family would like to recognize the staff at Schooner Memory Care for the care they provided Ruth in her last years, and where she made friends and some long-lasting memories. The family would also like to extend thanks to the caring staff of Andwell Hospice for the care they provided for Ruth in her final days.

Services are in the care of The Fortin and Pinette Funeral Home, 217 Turner St., Auburn, ME 04210. Family and friends are invited to offer words of remembrance and condolences to the family by visiting the funeral homes website fortinpinettegroupauburn.com.
