Steven Wayne Woods
CANTON – In loving memory of Steven Wayne Woods, 77, who passed away on April 14, 2026, after a brief and fast-paced battle with brain cancer, surrounded with loved ones! A long-time resident of Mexico and Roxbury, Maine, he was a snowbird for 16 years, residing in Dade City, Fla. Steve was a man defined by his work ethic, his love for the outdoors, and his deep devotion to his family.
Steve was born in Rumford at Rumford Hospital and was the son of Thomas and Sylvia Welch. Following his graduation from high school, he entered the United States Air Force, where he served with honor for five years. During his time in the service, Steve was stationed in Hawaii and Thailand and served during the Vietnam War before receiving his honorable discharge.
On Aug. 28, 1977, Steve married the love of his life, Jane Woods, in Mexico. A dedicated provider, Steve worked as a supervisor at Sampson’s before moving to the Rumford Paper Mill, where he worked in maintenance until his retirement.
A life of family and the outdoors, Steve was a “fixer” at heart who could never sit still for long; he was at his happiest when he was working with his hands or spending time at his camp in Roxbury. He had a profound love for the Maine outdoors, but nothing compared to the love he had for his family.
His daughter, Tawnya Woods, was the absolute pride and joy of Steve’s life. His legacy continues through his four granddaughters, Kylia, Shyla, Serenity Woods, and Bella, who meant the world to him. In his later years, he was especially blessed by his great-grandson, Tucker, who brought an extra spark of joy to his life.
Steve is survived by his beloved daughter, Tawnya Woods; his four granddaughters, Kylia, Shyla, Serenity, and Bella; and his great-grandson, Tucker.
He is also survived by his siblings, George Welch, Virginia “Ginny” Jones and her husband Don, Joyce Welch, Sally Hutchinson, Paul Sargent and his wife Patricia, Susan Targett, and Francis Kennedy.
Steve is now reunited with his cherished wife, Jane Woods, who predeceased him. He was also predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Sylvia Welch; and his brother, Thomas Welch Jr.
