DEAR SUN SPOTS: An AMEN Lewiston Free Clinic sponsored by Adventist Medical Evangelical Network will be held at 110 Canal St. in Lewiston, on Sunday, May 31, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Services include dental cleanings, fillings and extractions; complete eye exams and prescription eye glasses; blood pressure and glucose blood checks, and physical exams.
We do not require proof of insurance, employment, income, ID, or immigration status. Everybody is entitled to services that are on a first-come, first-serve basis. Appointments cannot be made in advance. Wristbands for admittance will be distributed during the morning.
This clinic is not for emergency care such as chest pain, bleeding, premature labor, or trauma. For emergencies call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room. — No name, Lewiston
ANSWER: I have a family member who volunteers at these clinics and it’s heartwarming to know that so many folks are helped every year through the efforts of these medical and dental professionals.
The Adventist Medical Evangelical Network is a nonprofit group of physicians and dentists dedicated to providing free dental and medical care to those who are underinsured or uninsured. These free clinics are made possible by volunteers and donations.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Drop-in Center at 121 Mill St. in Auburn really appreciates your support. When you bring your donations, they are sorted and stored in the back area until they are needed. Volunteers assist guests in filling basic needs, selecting clothing and finding urgently needed survival items.
We are always in need of helpers, and this role is busy, organized and vital to supporting our guests. Consider joining us. You can fill out the volunteer form at https://www.thedrop-incenter.org/get-involved.
As of today, these are the most urgent needs: tents, backpacks, and sleeping bags (used ones are fine if intact); socks, especially mid-calf style; men’s underwear, boxers preferred, in all sizes; blankets (clean with no holes); men’s pants in sizes 30, 32 and 34; men’s boots and sneakers in larger sizes and good condition; white plastic grocery bags or similar; trial size toothpaste, and cough drops.

ANSWER: Other items that are always needed include flashlights, reusable water bottles, backpacks of any kind, body wipes, body powder, bug repellent, individually packaged snacks, and canned goods that don’t require a can opener
