DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Knights of Columbus Council 10019 is sponsoring a blood drive at the Parish Hall of Holy Trinity Church on 67 Frost Hill Ave. in Lisbon Falls on Monday, June 8, from 1-5:30 p.m.
Please call 1-800-733-2767 to make an appointment or visit https://www.redcrossblood.org/ and enter LisbonFallsME in the white zip/sponsor code box. Many donors are needed as blood is in short supply. — Ray, no town
ANSWER: This blood drive accepts two types of donations. A Power Red donation collects the red cells but returns most of the plasma and platelets to the donor. These donors must meet specific eligibility requirements and have type A-, B- or O blood.
The most common type of donation, during which about a pint of whole blood is given usually takes about an hour.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I was at Midcoast Medical Center in Brunswick recently for a stressful appointment and afterward I was very thirsty and went to the cafeteria to get something to drink. There were no cashiers around — only a self-serve option and when I tried to purchase a bottle of juice, I could not understand how to do it. I am “elderly” and these machines often confuse me!
A nurse wearing scrubs came in and I asked her to help me. She walked up to the counter, pressed a couple buttons, scanned my item and her badge, and told me to have a great afternoon. She had paid for my drink! Her efficiency and kindness really made my day and I immediately said to myself, “I’m going to write to Sun Spots about this.”
When I see this type of letter in the column, it always makes me feel good. Thank you, Ms. Sun Spots for the opportunity to spread good news. — Gloria, Topsham
ANSWER: Thank you for sharing, Gloria. I feel the same way. The “angel notes” always give me a lift!
