DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking for someone who knows about knitting machines. It’s a Singer model 700 memo-matic. I would be willing to pay for lessons. I have tried knitting a few things and have had some success. Please contact me at 212-4447. Thanks. — Duane I. Broomhall, Otisfield
ANSWER: Sun Spots checked with Creative Sewing in Auburn and the Mill End Store in Oxford. Both said they knew people who use knitting machines, but did not have anyone who taught classes. Perhaps someone who is good at using one of these machines will be willing to help you out.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I am looking to find the crafter who was at the Elks Lodge craft fair on Saturday, Dec. 3, in Lewiston. She was the person in front as we walked in, with quilts and quilt table runners on a rack. I would like this person to contact me either by email or call 375-6588. Thank you for the help Sun Spots has provided. — Helen Marsh, Marsh [email protected]
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there a person in the Lewiston-Auburn area who does repair work on organs? I have a sounder Hammond organ that is in need of repair. I bought it from Carroll’s Music on Canal Street. I would appreciate hearing from you. — No Name, Lewiston
ANSWER: Sun Spots has two possibilities in her Rolodex:
Paul Mercier, formerly of Carroll’s Music Center, Music & Moore in Topsham, 725-4733
Nick Mamich of Bowdoinham, 837-2196
If anyone else out there offers organ repair, please let Sun Spots know.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I know this question was addressed more than once in your column but never kept it, as it was not needed. Now all of sudden I am in need of the name, address and phone number of the people who can make DVDs from VHS tapes in the L-A region. Thank you. — Ed Samson, Lewiston, [email protected]
ANSWER: Locally, Sun Spots can send you to Francis Gagnon, Via-Vision, 18 College St., Lewiston, 783-2550.
A young man from the region who is now attending college out of state will also help via mail: Asher Wilson, 2101 Glenview Court, Apt. 107, Winter Park, FL 32792, [email protected], 890-6059
A DVD of family memories could be a very nice, relatively inexpensive, gift for Christmas.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I want to offer thanks to a person who gave the Christmas season its intended meaning. On Nov. 29 I went shopping at Shaw’s on East Avenue and was waiting in line at the checkout counter when I suddenly realized that I’d forgotten to buy a banana.
Unintentionally, I left my wallet and credit card behind. Returning to the checkout counter, I couldn’t remember where I had left them. I left the store, leaving my groceries behind.
Early the next morning I received a call from a friend informing me that the Shaw’s service counter had my wallet and credit card. When I picked them up at Shaw’s, they were in the order I left them.
I am very appreciative of the kindness of someone who is very honest and conscious of the plight of someone missing important documents. I want to give that person a merry thank-you for his or her kindness. — Ron Jean, Lewiston
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank you very much for printing my Dec. 13 letter looking for instructors for Senior College. We really appreciate the publicity. However, I gave the wrong phone number. I’m so sorry. The correct numbers are 753-6610 and 753-6510. Could you please let your readers know the correct numbers? Thank you for all your help. — Florence Roberts, [email protected]
