Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, is greeted by Community Concepts CEO Mike Burke, right, Jennifer Warriner, left, and Linda Prince as Snowe visited the Lewiston office Tuesday for a discussion on the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program. Snowe, a longtime champion of LIHEAP since its creation in 1980, is pressuring Congress to restore the program’s funding to last year’s levels.
Bertrand Cloutier, a volunteer driver for Community Concepts, relates his own use of LIHEAP to Sen. Olympia Snowe Tuesday as she visited the Lewiston office. Cloutier had received his first LIHEP delivery of 50 gallons in October, but ran out quickly. He has been living on 5 gallons of heating fuel per week until his furnace broke recently. He is expecting an emergency delivery of 100 gallons Friday.
