RUMFORD — Theresa Belanger Burns, 91, a lifelong resident of Rumford, died Sunday, March 11, at the Rumford Community Home.
She was born in Rumford, April 30, 1920, daughter of Joseph and Georgiana (LaPlante) Belanger and graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1937. She was married to Harry F. Burns in Rumford, May 4, 1940, until his death on March 2, 1990.
Prior to her marriage, she worked as a dental hygienist for Dr. George Dyer before becoming a homemaker. She later worked as an office assistant to Dr. A.J. Ganguli for several years. She was a lifetime, active member of the Daughters of Isabella and a lifetime, loyal communicant of the Parish of the Holy Savior, St. Athanasius–St. John Church. Theresa enjoyed playing golf with her husband and friends and was also an avid Bridge player. She enjoyed spending time with her family and over the years frequently made trips to visit her children and grandchildren. For more than 50 years, she had a loving relationship with a close knit group of friends.
Survivors include daughters, Susan Burns Podzamsky of Atlantic Beach, Fla.,, and Sally Burns Mottalini of Orchard Park, N.Y.; grandchildren, Sarah Mottalini of Denver, Colo., Susanne Podzamsky of Atlantic Beach, Fla., Alyssa and Dana Burns of Westbrook and Christopher Mottalini of Brooklyn, N.Y.; and daughter-in-law, Paula Burns of Dixfield.
Theresa was predeceased by her parents; her husband; her son, Michael Scott Burns; her sister, Olive Maillet; and her brother, Oliver Belanger.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the loving caregivers at Rumford Community Home, where Theresa resided for the past four years.
