To celebrate African-American History Month, the fourth-grade students of Carmen Dufresne, Molly Tripp, Ernie Gagne and Terrie Ouellette at Geiger Elementary School, Lewiston, researched and made posters of African-Americans who reflected a range of educational, artistic, historical and professional expertise. In addition, students wrote research papers and presented oral reports to their classmates and parents on a day of celebration, Feb. 16. Pictured above are Laila Bunnit (with Mae Jamison, astronaut); Brianna Melanson ( Patricia Roberts Harris, political leader); Biersen Scott (John Russworm, abolitionist and writer); and Andrew Wilson ( W.E.B Dubois, educator).
