LEWISTON — Legendary Canadian fiddler Richard Wood and guitarist/singer Gordon Belsher will take the stage at the Franco-American Heritage Center on Tuesday, March 27.
The two will also perform Wednesday, March 28, at Skye Theatre Performing Arts Center in Carthage; and Thursday, March 29, at Unity College Center for the Performing Arts in Unity.
For more than two decades, Wood has performed across Canada, as well as in the United States, Europe and Japan. Highlights include TV guest appearances with country singer Shania Twain on “David Letterman” and “Good Morning America;” and at Carnegie Hall with Irish legends The Chieftains.
In the late 1990s, Wood toured the United Kingdom and Europe headlining concert halls and folk festivals. He has played at the Lincoln Centre in New York City and Epcot at Disney World, and was a featured performer in the touring fiddle spectacle “Bowfire.” He has entertained Canada’s armed forces in Bosnia and Afghanistan, and has won three Canadian East Coast Music Awards.
Belsher has performed solo at concerts, ceilidhs, conventions and pubs around the world for more than a quarter of a century. He has also toured extensively as accompanist and featured vocalist with Prince Edward Island fiddlers Wood and Cynthia MacLeod.
His solo CD, “Call Up All the Neighbours,” was nominated for Roots/Traditional Solo Recording of the Year at the 2008 East Coast Music Awards. His previous solo recording, “Reel in the Flickering Light” was nominated at the 2003 ECMA’s in the same category.
Curtain is 7 p.m. at the Franco center and Skye; 7:30 p.m. in Unity. Preshow jam sessions have been scheduled for one prior to show at Skye and Unity. Tickets are $15 at the door.
