FALMOUTH — Audrey Elaine Meister, 89, of Hill Street, South Paris, died Monday, April 2, at Falmouth by the Sea surrounded by her family.
She was born July 28, 1922, in Lorain, Ohio, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. R. G. Wells.
In 1943, she graduated with honors from Kent State University with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry. After college, she worked as a researcher in the chemistry laboratory of the B. F. Goodrich Co. in Akron, Ohio. She then went on to teach as a chemistry professor at Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, where she co-authored two organic chemistry manuals.
After being a homemaker for many years, she returned to the workforce as an office manager and ran a dental lab for Josef Fodor in North Royalton, Ohio.
In 1989, she retired and moved to Maine to watch her grandchildren grow up. They have loving memories of her keeping score and handing out gum at sporting games, watching them swim in the pool, sitting on the bench swing outside, and spoiling them with sweets! During her first few years in Maine, she played a tremendous role in helping her daughter, Debbie, complete her nursing degree.
She kept active even in retirement, volunteering many hours at the Norway Memorial Library and local chapter of AARP.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah, her husband, Joel LaVine; grandchildren, Katie, her husband, Robbie Federico, Chris, Abby, and Emily LaVine; great-grandchildren, MacKenzie and MaKayla Federico, GiGi’s “M&M” girls; nephew, Dick, his wife, Ruth McCune; and fond neighbor, James Black.
She was predeceased by her husband of 31 years, W. J. “Bud” Meister; sisters, Lois Winter and Donna Rae Wells; and son, Robert “Rowdy” Meister.
The family would like to express thanks and gratitude to the staff of Falmouth by the Sea and Beacon Hospice.
