I am a recent graduate of the Androscoggin Drug Court Treatment Program. A little more than two years ago, I was convicted of a crime that was powered by my drug use.
People all over the nation are witnessing the rise of the prescription/alcohol epidemic of which I, unfortunately, was a part of. Facing many years in prison, the opportunity was offered to me to become a member of the Drug Court Program.
I never expected anything in my life to give me hope like that did.
The program deserves recognition in a positive light. During my time I have learned how to be an honest, productive citizen with goals and a healthy lifestyle.
I am no longer searching for drugs and my next fix. I have learned to be accountable for all of my actions and how to effectively cope with any situation.
Drug addiction is a disease that is treatable. With the tools that the drug court can provide to someone, there can be a long-term solution for many users who commit crimes to enable their drug habits.
It changed my life forever. Instead of being behind bars, I have been given a second chance to be the person I am today while living a drug-free life.
Everyone who is or was a part of that team deserves a thank-you for the dedication and hard work. I am eternally grateful.
