LEWISTON — Advocates for Children is planning the following parenting classes, to be held at B Street Community Center, 57 Birch St., unless noted. One class starts April 26, with the others taking place May through August.
“Active parenting of teens” six-session program will begin Tuesday, May 1, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The program will address such topics as parenting styles, courage and self-esteem, problem-solving responsibility and discipline, cooperation and communication, adolescent development and specific issues facing teens today. Registration fee is $15 and includes a parent handbook.
“Active parenting now” for ages 5-12 is a six-session workshop to help parents raise responsible children who are able to resist negative peer pressure. Learn effective discipline techniques and encourage development skills. It will take place Thursdays, April 26 through May 31, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at Poland Community School. Cost is $15, includes handbook. Registration is required; call 345-3217.
“1-2-3 Magic” will help parents learn an amazingly simple technique to get kids to stop doing what you don’t want them to do. Learn several effective methods to get your kids to start doing what you do want them to do. Learn powerful techniques that reinforce the bond between parents and children. For parents with children ages 2-12. Evening classes from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays, June 4 and 11. Afternoon classes from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursdays, Aug. 9 and 16. $5. Registration is required.
“1,2,3,4 Parents!” is a three-session program for parents with children ages 1-4. Learn discipline methods that work, how to prevent tantrums, routines to make life easier and more. Thursdays, July 12, 19 and 26 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. $15, includes handbook. Registration is required.
“Kids First, Parenting Through Separation & Divorce,” is a four-hour program for parents in the process of separation or divorce who wish to lessen the negative impact experienced by their children. Saturdays, May 12, June 9, July 14 and Aug. 11 from 8 a.m. to noon. $60, limited scholarships available. Registration is required.
