DIXFIELD — Countryfolk Music & Minerals’ not-for-profit museum project in East Dixfield that awards youth music scholarships annually now seeks old country music posters, 45, 78 and 33 1/3 records, especially by Maine musicians, or band photographs of country-western musicians, old microphones, an old Victrolas and jukeboxes, instruments (to loan to youth musicians), as well as old rock collections, mining tools, glass display cases, family videos and photos of prospecting or specimens from Maine mines.

“The 20- by 60-foot building with a 10 by 60 front sun porch is up on U.S. Route 2 in the East Dixfield section of Wilton and we plan to start working on the inside of the building this spring” said Larry Bisbee. “We are still looking for steel roofing at a good discount price if possible. Countryfolk has awarded youth music scholarships exceeding $4000 over the past 12 years and has offered a venue to showcase local musicians.”

Bisbee said, “We decided to build a museum to offer a place to honor and recognize all the musical talent in Maine as well as to display gems from the mineral rich areas of Oxford, Franklin and Androscoggin counties. Several donations have already been made to the project.”

Also needed are various construction materials, including two 36-inch steel doors, fire door push bars hardware, a 48-inch window door, insulation and half-inch plywood. “Plus,” Bisbee said, “we are always looking for volunteers to help out with the project.”
