LEWISTON — A group of local musicians organized by Nel Meservier, a founding member of the C’est Si Bon band, will entertain at the Franco-American Heritage Center’s monthly La Rencontre luncheon on Friday, June 1.

The 11:30 a.m. luncheon in Heritage Hall will serve as the unofficial kickoff to the  annual Festival Franco Fun, which takes place at the center the following day. The meal, costing $7, will be chicken pot pies, fresh baked biscuits, homemade cake and beverage.

C’est Si Bon, one of the area’s most popular Franco-American musical acts, enjoyed a long career performing throughout northern New England and Canada before disbanding in the early 2000s. Meservier will reunite with several members of the group as C’etait Si Bon at this year’s Festival Franco Fun.

Joining Meservier at La Rencontre will be Barry Wood,  Lorraine Giasson and Bert Dutil. Wood, who has performed for 61 years, has received more than 70 vocalist, entertainer, instrumentalist and solo artist awards from the Down East Country Music Association and the North American Country Music Association International in Tennessee. He had the honor of playing with the late Les Paul at the Iridium Jazz Club in New York City five years ago. Wood now performs at a  community homes, private functions, club dates, summer fairs and campgrounds.

Giasson grew up in a family that loved music and remembers her aunts and uncles  taking up instruments and playing while others danced. She has sung with many different groups, including choirs and folk groups; and joined the group Just Us Entertainers several years ago.

Dutil has been around music for most of his life. In 1959, he organized a drum and bugle corps that developed into The Pine Tree Warriors, which played for 30-plus years in the Lewiston-Auburn area. He then joined Magic Pop Chorus and later The Just Us Entertainers, with whom he still performs from time to time. Dutil has  has been active with Franco-American war veterans and now spends his time organizing trips for the Meadowview senior complex and is a Franco Center volunteer.
