Roads washed over. Lightning strikes, power outages and streams overflowing their banks.

All that following a thunderstorm Friday afternoon that lasted less than an hour.

Lightning cracked and rain poured across the area starting at about 3 p.m. and a flood advisory was issued for several counties.

In Auburn, fire officials confirmed that a lightning strike caused a 4 p.m. fire at a home on Bramblewood Road.

A similar strike caused a fire at a barn on East Oxford Road in Paris, although damage was minimal.

A tree blew down in a yard on South Main Street in Mechanic Falls. Nobody was hurt.

Water from Range Pond spilled across Route 26 in Poland, temporarily blocking the busy throughway to traffic.

In Lewiston, a stream off the Androscoggin River flowed over Cotton Road, although the road remained passable.

A half-mile portion of Route 136 in Durham was partially closed, but county officials said that was a pre-existing condition — highway officials are inspecting the area to see what effects a rainy June has had on the roadway.

Across the Lewiston area, power flickered off and on as the storm roared and then moved along.

By the supper hour, the skies were blue again. Hot weather and scattered showers are expected to remain into Saturday before cooler temperatures arrive on Sunday.
