LEWISTON — The Moon Dawgs, who played to sell-out crowds at Pal Hops, will get people on their feet Saturday, Aug. 11, when the Dance Party Under the Stars moves to the Androscoggin Riverfront.

The first evening of dancing under the stars, put on by Museum L-A, took place on the top floor of the parking garage at Lincoln and Main streets.

This summer’s celebration will be at 1 Beech Street, adjacent to Simard-Payne Park, the museum’s future home.

There will be music and dancing, and treats from The Green Ladle, from 8 p.m. to midnight. There will also be a long intermission and a surprise riverfront show.

“There was so much dancing and rocking, along with the difficulty of having to crane everything to the top of the garage, that we decided to feature another amazing L-A asset — the downtown riverfront area with its own spectacular views,” Rachel Desgrosseilliers, Museum L-A’s executive director, said.

“This allows us to show off some of the cleanup work that has been accomplished at our new site and bring focus to both cities’ plans for development of the riverfront,” she said.

After nearly 50 years of performing, the Moon Dawgs are still entertaining audiences. The band opened shows with Dave Clark Five, The Kingsmen, Freddie and the Dreamers, and The Searchers. It performed more recently in the area of West Palm Beach, Fla.

Tickets are now on sale for $25 through Aug. 10 at Museum L-A, by calling 333-3881 and online at rsvp.museumla.org. Sponsored tables of eight are available for $350. Tickets will be $30 at the door. Volunteers will again be needed to help with logistics. If interested, contact Diane Williams at the museum. For more information on the event, visit museumla.org.
