‘Summer Sizzler’
AUBURN — Local youth and their families are invited to celebrate the end of summer and get set for fall during the first annual “Summer Sizzler” at Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine’s Auburn/Lewiston Clubhouse.

The neighborhood barbecue and open house will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the clubhouse, 43 Second St., New Auburn.

Organized in partnership with the United New Auburn Association, the event aims to bring together families and neighbors for an afternoon cookout featuring a petting zoo, magician, face-painting, games and prizes. Many of this year’s prizes will feature school supplies for kids getting ready to head back to class in the coming weeks.

The event is free and open to the public.

Old-time hymn sing

LISBON FALLS — An old-fashioned family hymn sing and ice cream social will take place at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Lisbon United Methodist Church, 14 School St.

The evening will explore the heritage of hymns from revivals, camp meetings and vintage radio, with specialty numbers. There will be opportunities for personal selections as well.

Following the singing, ice cream will be served. Everyone is welcome to bring a musical instruments if they wish. For more information, call 353-5982.

La Leche meeting

AUBURN — The La Leche League, which offers breastfeeding information and encouragement to pregnant women and new mothers, will meet at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 102 Bennett Ave. Babies are always welcome.

All concerns about breastfeeding are welcome for discussion in addition to the scheduled topic, “ Breastfeeding, the Mother- Baby Relationship and the Weaning Process.”  The discussion will include nutrition for nursing mothers, introducing solids to baby and the weaning breastfed baby.
