DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a fan that I’ve had for 65 years. It is called Cool Spots and was made by a company called Signal. It runs fantastic. Can you find any information on this company? Thank you. — D.H., Lewiston

ANSWER: Sun Spots discovered that Signal was a division of the King-Seeley Corp., based in Ann Arbor, Mich., in the first half of the 20th century. King-Seeley appears to have owned several manufacturing divisions that made a variety of goods for companies nationwide, including Sears.

As for your Cool Spot, apparently you are not the only fan of these antique fans. Sun Spots found some in good condition selling on eBay and other sites for up to $200.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’d like to know if anyone still makes hand cream with beeswax. The old man that I was getting it from passed away, and now I want some more. I don’t know any beekeepers. Thanks. — [email protected]

ANSWER: Hopefully readers will respond with someone local who can provide what you need. Meanwhile, there’s always Burt’s Bees — no longer local, of course, but the company did originate in Maine.

Also, in case you want to make your own, at ehow.com, Sun Spots found a recipe for beeswax lotion.

1 to 2 tablespoons beeswax

1/4 cup cocoa butter

1/4 cup light cooking oil

1/8 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 cup distilled water

Grate or break the beeswax into small pieces. Combine it with the cocoa butter in a microwave-safe bowl and microwave in 30-second intervals until the mixture has melted. In a separate bowl, add the water and the baking soda. Heat to boiling. Whisk the water mixture slowly into the wax. It will thicken as it cools. Add any desired essential oils.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Recently, upon entering the Auburn Hannaford’s, I was faced with the most beautiful flower display that I’ve ever seen. Right in the middle of all the roses was a huge bouquet of light lavender, the most beautiful of all bouquets. I looked at the price and said I’m getting them anyway.

As we neared the register, I began to get second thoughts and told my husband to put them back. We checked out, and I went to the car to wait for my husband. Seconds later he knocked on my window with flowers in hand.

For split second I thought he had gone back and gotten them. But it was an angel behind us in line who bought them for us.

My husband asked, “Why would you do this?” Her response was “because I like to make people happy.”

Not only was I happy but I know our Lord was looking down on this angel and he, too, was happy. All I can say is thank you from the bottom of our heats. I have asked our Lord to bless the beautiful lady who made me cry and our beautiful flowers.

Our blossoms will neither wither nor die because they are safe in my heart. Thank you. — Paula Toth, Lewiston
