PORTLAND —  Portland’s Back Cove will be the scene of the second annual Kids’ Maine Marathon Mile, on Saturday, September 29, beginning at 10 a.m. The event will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southern Maine.

To participate, athletes must be 7-12 years of age on the day of the race.  Official Kids’ Maine Marathon Mile t-shirts and bags will be given to the first 300 athletes who register for the race.

New this year is a free “Fun Run” for kids 4 to 6 years old.  At 9:45 a.m., athletes will run 120 yards on Pedro Field.

The names of athletes who raise $100 or more over the registration amount will be entered into a drawing to win an iPad®.  For each additional $100 raised, participants will receive an additional entry into the drawing. The drawing for the iPad® will take place Friday, October 5 at 4 p.m.

Race registration can be done online at www.KidsMeMarathonMile.com, or in-person on the day of the race. Registration will be from 8 to 9:40 a.m. at the Maine Marathon start line, near the Hannaford entrance on Bedford Street in Portland. There is a $12 entry fee for the Kids’ Mile (only $10 for registrations returned to the BBBS or postmarked by Monday, September 24).
