SCARBOROUGH — Zelda Zack, 94, of Portland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Sept. 7, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.

Zelda was born in Auburn, June 16, 1918, the daughter of Sarah and Morris Diamond. She was a graduate of Edward Little High School, Class of 1936.

Zelda married Morris Zack in May 1946, in a double ceremony with her beloved younger sister, Sylvia (Louis). Zelda worked much of her adult life at the Central Maine Medical Center School of Nursing.

Zelda and Morris were loving parents to their two children, Marilyn and Howard, growing up in Auburn and Lewiston. They were actively involved in all of the children’s activities and with their friends.

Zelda was a lifetime member of the Beth Abraham Synagogue and was an active volunteer in many community-oriented organizations. She cared deeply about the plight of others and took pride in supporting many charitable causes.

Zelda was known as a woman of great warmth, intellect and integrity. She lived her life with dignity and grace choosing to recognize the best qualities in everyone who touched her life. Zelda is lovingly remembered for her wit and wisdom, which she shared generously with her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Howard Zack and wife, Kathy and Marilyn Peller and husband, Stewart and grandchildren, Alison Zack (Irene), Jason Peller (Julie) and Benjamin Zack as well as her great-grandson, Noah Peller; Zelda is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins; and extended family and friends.
