FARMINGTON — Lena Bell Shope, 97, a former resident of Orlando, Fla., went to be with her Lord, Sunday, Oct. 7, at Sandy River Center, with her loving family by her side.
She was born Nov. 4, 1914, in Ocoee, Fla., the daughter of John Washington Childers and Jenny Anne (Terry) Childers. She grew up at the Florida United Methodist Childrens Home and attended school in Enterprise, Fla.
On Feb. 2, 1936, she married Earl W. Shope and they made their home in Florida. Through the years, she worked packing fruit and taking care of her family. Lena moved to Maine to be with her daughter after her husband Earl passed away.
She was a woman of great faith and had the opportunity to go to Rome and see Pope John Paul II. Lena was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Eulaine Lowe and her husband, Gene, of Jay; her son, James Earl Shope of Clermont, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl W. Shope; her son, Robert Luther Shope; her twin sister, Hester Drier half brothers and sisters, Lucian, Brack, and Thomas Childers, Lula Kendall, Mildred Calhoun and Bernice Childers.
