LEWISTON — The Lewiston Public Library will host The Book Club Day, an event dedicated to books and book discussion clubs, on Sunday, Oct. 21
The free event at 2 p.m. in Callahan Hall will highlight web, print and human resources that support readers and book groups.
William D. Bushnell of Harpswell, a professional book reviewer with more than 2,100 reviews published in 35 magazines and newspapers, will be the featured speaker. He writes regular columns for two national magazines and three Maine newspapers, is a longtime member of the National Book Critics Circle and teaches a class on book reviewing for the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance.
The library is offering a book club interest survey for adults who would like to join a book discussion club. The survey can be taken at LPLonline.org/bookclub. Survey results will be used to establish new book groups which will meet at LPL during November.
Everyone attending the Oct 21 library program will receive a discount coupon good for The Public Theatre’s production of “The Book Club Play,” opening on Oct. 19 and running through Oct. 28. The library is also holding a free drawing for tickets to “The Book Club Play.”
The Book Club Day program will also serve as the annual meeting for Friends of LPL, a nonprofit that supports library activities.
