FREEPORT — Organizers of the 10th annual Camp Sunshine Pumpkin Festival have set a goal of displaying 10,000 illuminated jack-o’-lanterns at the family-friendly charity event on Saturday, Oct. 27.
The event, from noon to 8 p.m. at L.L. Bean’s flagship store, will feature children’s activities, entertainment, food, music, a costume parade, a corporate carving challenge, a pumpkin whoopie pie eating contest and a display of thousands of lighted jack-o’-lanterns.
Each pumpkin is sponsored with a $10 donation; and only pumpkins that get sponsored will be carved and displayed. Proceeds will benefit Camp Sunshine, a national retreat in Casco for children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.
To sponsor a pumpkin, visit www.campsunshine.org/pumpkinfestival or text CAMP to 20222.
Ten round-trip JetBlue tickets and 10 $100 L.L. Bean gift cards will be awarded as drawing giveaways, one set of each after each increment of 1,000 sponsored pumpkins is reached.
