RANGELEY — Residents voted Wednesday night to authorize the Board of Selectmen to pay $145,000 to settle a lawsuit filed by fired highway foreman Everett Quimby in 2010.
The money is to be taken from the town’s unreserved fund.
Twenty to 25 residents voted, Town Clerk Ethna Thompson said Thursday. The meeting lasted about 30 minutes.
Town officials, former Town Manager Perry Ellsworth and Everett Quimby, who was fired in 2008, reached a settlement agreement Nov. 8. It requires $175,000 be paid to Quimby. The town’s share is $145,000, and Ellsworth’s share is $30,000.
Quimby who had worked for the town for 14 years prior to being fired, filed the lawsuit claiming he was terminated without due process, in violation of town policy and in violation of the Maine Whistleblowers’ Protection Act and the Maine Human Rights Act.
