1927 – 2012
TURNER — Clara G. “Mamo” Murphy, 85, died peacefully Thursday, Dec. 20, at her home.
She was born in the territory of Hawaii on Nov. 23, 1927. Clara attended and graduated from Maryknoll High School in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1945. She met and married her husband of 61 years, Francis Murphy, in May of 1950; he predeceased her on August 3, 2011.
Clare and Frank spent the next 27 years in the service of The U.S. Marine Corps. She was a devoted wife and mother. Clara spent her free time sewing, cooking, canning, and keeping a wonderful home for her family. She also was an enthusiastic gardener and loved to travel.
Clara and family moved to Turner in 1997 to build their new home and enjoy their retirement.
She is survived by three sons, Curtis Murphy and wife, Celise of Lisbon Falls, Eric Murphy and wife, Roberta of Nevada and Paul Murphy and wife, Sherylee of Turner; two grandchildren, April and Andy Murphy of California; a brother-in-law, Richard Murphy and wife, Muriel of Auburn; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Murphy family would like to thank the staff at Androscoggin Health Services, especially Mary, Tammy, Kena and Doreen, for their kindness and help during our mother’s last days. To you all we offer our deepest heartfelt thanks and Aloha.
