AUBURN – An enthusiastic crowd of 134 enjoyed a night of laughs for a good cause as the fourth installment of Comedy Fix, a stand-up comedy fundraising series, brought in $1,146 for Advocates for Children. The Lewiston-based nonprofit fosters programs to prevent child maltreatment and empower children and families to live healthy and productive lives.

Series founder Mark Turcotte joined fellow Maine comics Heather Neal, Jake Jacobson, Mike Levinsky, Travis Curran, Chris Choate and Dee Turcotte in providing the laughs and more than $200 in door prizes. The show took place at the Auburn Fireside Inn.

“Donations such as this from Comedy Fix will help the agency sponsor more programs such as its new prenatal series, designed for expecting parents,” said Advocates for Children executive director Pam Allen. “Each week a different topic is presented, such as infant mental health, attachment and bonding, or boot camp for new dads. We are very appreciative of such financial support.”

“The shows keep getting better,” said Turcotte. “I’m so encouraged by the support of the audience and the community. The comedians have been fantastic and we look forward to bringing more laughs to Lewiston-Auburn.”

Through four shows Comedy Fix has raised $4,940 for Maine charities. Previous beneficiaries include the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing, the Maine chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness and Good Shepherd Food Bank.

Comedy Fix V is scheduled for Friday, April 12, at the Auburn Fireside. Turcotte will host comedians Ian Stuart, Kyron Hobdy, Lucas O’Neil, Mark Reilly, Matt Kona and Ted Pettingell. The show will benefit John F. Murphy Homes, which is dedicated to offering life-enriching services to people with development disabilities and autism spectrum disorder and creating a stronger and more inclusive community.
