LEWISTON — The YWCA of Central Maine is now accepting applications for 2013 Summer Camp, which will run for 10 weeks, June 17 through Aug. 23. Children can join for as little as one week or for the entirety of the camp.

Summer Camp is for children ages 5 through 14 with three camps to choose from. Camp Kangaroo is for campers ages 5-7 who have completed kindergarten, Camp Weewannago is for campers ages 8-12 and the nine-week Art Camp is for campers ages 8-14. Camp will run Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Morning and afternoon extended care is also available.

Activities throughout camp will be based on the theme of the week and are as follows for Camp Kangaroo and Weewannago: Week of June 17-21, grand opening; June 24-28, carnival week; July 1-5, emergency services; July 8-12, animal planet; July 15-19, seashells and sandcastles; July 22-26, sports-mania; July 29-Aug. 2, wet n wild; Aug. 5-9, great Maine explorations; Aug. 12-16, under the sea; and Aug. 19-23, grand finale.

Along with theme-based activities, YWCA Summer Camp includes weekly field trips including trips to Portland Headlight, Popham Beach, DEW Animal Kingdom, a water park and much more. Magic Y World and daily pool time are also included.

Art Camp themed weeks are as follows: June 17-21, digital photography; June 24-28, drawing; July 1-5, painting; July 8-12, cartooning; July 15-19, performance art; July 22-26, sculpting; July 29-Aug. 2, film making; Aug. 5-9, scrapbooking; Aug. 12-16, party planning/cooking and YWCA annual Art Camp red carpet movie premiere of “Dr. Seuss and The Mystery of the Cat’s Lost Hat.”

Camp Kangaroo and Weewannago cost to members of the YWCA is $135 per week and $145 for non-members. Art Camp cost to YWCA members is $145 per week and $155 for non-members, all art supplies are included. Breakfast and lunch will be provided at no additional cost. There is a nonrefundable $15 deposit for each week of camp which will be applied to camp costs. Deposit is due at time of registration. Scholarships are available on a limited basis. All scholarship applications must be returned no later than Friday, May 17, in order to be considered by the scholarship committee. Applications are available online or at the YWCA.
