DIXFIELD — Kate Bonney, daughter of Lolisa Windover of Peru, was presented the 2013 DAR Good Citizen Award certificate and pin for Dirigo High School at an assembly held on March 12 by Donna Towle, Colonial Daughters Chapter, DAR.

The chapter sponsors the award to recognize excellence in seniors of seven local high schools each year. The qualities for candidacy are dependability (truthfulness, loyalty and punctuality); service (cooperation, courtesy and consideration of others); leadership (personality, self-control and ability to assume responsibility); and patriotism (unselfish interest in family, school, community and nation).

The faculty nominated three candidates and the senior class voted decided the recipient.

Bonney also received the Secretary of State Good Citizen Award when she finished the eighth grade at TW Kelly Middle School.

She is a member of the National Honor Society, president and one of the charter members of the Outing Club, captain of the Nordic Ski Team and captain of the Field Hockey Team.

Bonney encourages younger teammates and peers and volunteers her time in the community on many projects and fundraisers. She is a member of Holy Savior Parish in Rumford, where she is a lector.

Bonney has volunteered at the Dirigo Elementary School, in Mrs. Bousquet’s kindergarten class every other day during her study halls for three years. This opportunity has made her more committed to her dream of being a kindergarten teacher. Bonney will attend Saint Joseph’s College of Maine in the fall to pursue an education degree.
