PORTLAND — The Portland Symphony Orchestra will conclude its 2012-13 season with two performances of Mahler’s Symphony, No. 5 conducted by music director Robert Moody at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, May 5 and 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 7.
The entire program will be dedicated to
’s emotional, passionate Symphony No. 5 in memory of victims of the Boston Marathon. The symphony’s full efforts are focused on creating the most poignant journey of this Mahler symphony possible, striving for a time of catharsis through music. The work is famous for its funereal trumpet solo at the opening and the Adagiatto, Mahler’s most frequently performed piece, originally composed as a love letter to his wife.
Ticket holders are invited to a pre “Concert Conversation” at 1:15 pm. Sunday and at 6:15 pm. Tuesday. Tickets range from $26-$76 and can be purchased through PortTIX, porttix.com, 207-842-0800 or in person at the box office at Merrill Auditorium, 20 Myrtle Street, from noon to 6 pm. Monday through Saturday.
