KINGFIELD – A Franklin County Sheriff’s deputy found 5 to 6 grams of suspected bath salts Friday after he stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation, Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. said Tuesday.

Cpl. Ken Charles stopped a vehicle driven by Nicole B. Dupont, 23, of Bangor in Kingfield and learned that she had several warrants out for her arrest from Penobscot County, he said. The warrants charged unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, unpaid fines, theft by unauthorized taking and failure to appear, he said.

Dupont also had a suspended license in Maine and was subject to bail conditions, he said.

Charles and Deputy Matt Brann searched the vehicle and seized 5 to 6 grams of a substance suspected to be bath salts, a usable amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, including a used hypodermic needle that belonged to Dupont, Nichols said.

Dupont was arrested on charges of operating after suspension, violation condition of release and warrant charges, and transported to Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington, he said.
