Seniors to observe 50th anniversary

AUBURN — The First Auburn Seniors will meet for the 50th anniversary buffet luncheon Wednesday, May 1, at the Martindale Country Club. There will be favors and a special pot of gold drawing.

The Andy Valley Theater Readers will entertain. Doors will open at 11 a.m.

Fifty-two members attended the April 17 meeting. Attendance winners were June McGinley and Helen Merrow.

Pot of gold winners were Buzz Edwards, Bernice Brooks and Virginia Houston. Special drawings were won by Irene Fraser, Pat Edwards and Lucy Cowles. New members Nancy Hutchinson and Cindy Larrabee were welcomed.

Learn Persian cooking at center

LEWISTON — St. Mary’s Nutrition Center will offer an Introduction to Persian Cooking class, taught by guest teachers Parivash Rohani and Nahid Fekri, from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 1. The class will take place in the center kitchen, located at 208 Bates St.

Participants will learn the traditional techniques involved in weaving together the flavors of the Iranian region. Parivash and Nahid are originally from Iran.

The menu will include spiced chicken with raisin, cranberry and Persian berry rice, Persian marinated chicken with apple and carrot-spiced rice and a puff pastry.

Beekeepers to talk ‘Swarming’ at meeting

AUBURN — The Androscoggin Beekeepers Club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, at the Auburn City Building, room 203, when the speaker will  be Paul Szott. His topic will be “SWARMING!!!!!”

Szott grew up in West Auburn, and lives in Harrison. He has kept bees commercially and as a hobbyist for the past 40 years. He was the Maine bee inspector for a time and cares for 70 hives.

Pomona to confer 5th Degree

MINOT — Androscoggin Pomona 1 will meet on Wednesday, May 1, at West Minot Grange, corner of Routes 124 and 119, to confer the 5th Degree or the Degree of Pomona on several new members.

A 50/50 raffle will be held along with the attendance drawing. There will be a 6:30 p.m. supper for $5 and a 7:30 p.m. meeting.
