BETHEL — The probability that up to a dozen eligible Telstar Regional High School seniors will be able to attend Central Maine Community College tuition-free in the fall increased after Sunday River Ski Resort made a donation, the SAD 44 board learned this week.

Superintendent David Murphy said the money, together with that donated by Project Opportunity, means fundraising is 75 percent complete.

Project Opportunity is comprised of local businesses that have provided funds for the improvement of educational opportunities for district students.

“We thank Sunday River,” Murphy told the board Monday night. “We’re now looking for other sources.”

The district has entered into an agreement with the Auburn college to launch a pilot program that would allow eligible seniors to take a full load of CMCC courses beginning in September. Those students would return to the high school at the end of the day to participate in after-school activities.

Potential students and their parents plan to tour the college this week. Murphy said registration for fall courses by Telstar students should take place by the middle of May.

In other matters, following a 45-minute closed session, the board unanimously voted to readmit a Telstar high school boy after a three-month expulsion. Murphy said the expulsion was due to the boy damaging the school’s sprinkler system. He said the student has met all the requirements for readmission.

Prior to the vote, board Chairwoman Lainey Cross said that the board believes such behavior will not reoccur.

Also on Monday, the board:

* Approved a state-funded field trip to White Mountains Community College in Berlin, N.H., for a group of students on May 23.

* Approved a senior class trip to Canobie Lake Park in Salem, N.H., on June 12.

* Accepted the resignation of half-time art teacher Sarah Tardif.

* Learned of several performances of “The Wizard of Oz” by SAD 44 students at the high school on May 9, 10 and 11.

* Approved the last day of school for Friday, June 21. Originally, students had been required to attend a half-day on June 24 but that will be a teacher workshop day.
