NORWAY — A total of 29 species were identified during the annual migratory bird walk Sunday at the Roberts Farm Preserve.
Ten “birders” identified the avians.
Lee Dassler of the Western Foothills Land Trust said most of the species were heard or seen enjoying edge habitats between woods and field.
The event has been organized by Robert Van Nest and his wife, Mary, for many years on their farm. In recent years, it has been held at Roberts Farm Preserve.
Last year, about a dozen birders saw 28 species, including most of the warblers, in two hours.
Dassler said the birds identified this year were the cardinal, ovenbird, crow, phoebe, black and white warbler, Tennessee warbler, parula warbler, tree swallow, yellow-rumped warbler, chickadee, black-throated blue warbler, black-throated green warbler, hermit thrush, goldfinch, olive-sided flycatcher, blue jay, flicker, robin, purple finch, cowbird, Baltimore oriole, rose-breasted grosbeak, chipping sparrow, red-winged blackbird, mourning dove, pine warbler, wood thrush, white-throated sparrow and red-eyed vireo.
