A stained glass panel titled “The Coastal Maine Mysteries Nature Cycle” was conceived, designed and supervised by Nel Bernard to celebrate the Healing Garden at the Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing. Twenty volunteers participated in its construction between February and June. The roster includes Debbie Adams, Brianna Bisesti, Amanda Braithwaite, Rachel Campbell, Marjorie Clifford, Sylvia Crafts, Betsy Crowell, Mary Dempsey, Cecile Doyon, Tim Dubuc, Mary Dzengelewski, Stan Dzengelewski, Patricia Evanisko, Anne Labbe, Pam Little, Barbara Richard, Cindy Taylor, Paris Teague and Pat White. The group met twice monthly at Maine Art Glass Studio in Lisbon Falls, a space donated by Jim Nutting, to complete the project which depicts an imaginary coastal Maine scene with examples of natural flora and fauna, employing dozens of different glasses and numerous techniques. The project was conceived as a way to bring survivors and caregivers together and create a positive, permanent art installation while learning new skills and exercising commitment, cooperation and community support.
