Church resuming worship services

PARIS — The First Universalist Church on Pine Street will resume worship services with the first service of the 2013/2014 church year on Sunday, Sept. 8.

Marilyn Hammond and Sharon Bouchard will conduct the worship service for Grandparents Day, and Donna Hurd will direct the music segment.

On Sept. 15 the Rev. Robert Sallies will be the guest speaker; Sept. 22, Silver Moore-Leamon; and Sept. 29, Anita White.

All music is under the direction of Donna Hurd and Sunday School is under the direction of Renee Wales. Coffee and fellowship will follow the worship service and all are welcome. All services begin at 10 a.m. and childcare is available. The First Universalist Church is wheelchair accessible.

Church begins fall schedule of Bible study

LEWISTON — Calvary United Methodist Church will begin its fall Bible study for adults from 9 to 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 8. All adults are welcome.

Faith Village, children’s programming, will resume from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. New families are invited to bring their children. The Sunday service will begin at 10:30 a.m. with music by the Praise Team, led by Mitch Thomas.

Supper and festival concert paired up

FARMINGTTON — The Old South First Congregational Church, 227 Main St., is cooking up a bean and casserole supper on Saturday, Sept. 14, prior to the concert as part of the first Crossroads International Celtic Festival.

The supper will be served from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Cost for adults is $8; children 10 and under, $4; under 3, free. The menu will include Tailgate Beans, chicken cacciatore, American chop suey, vegetarian Rice Verde, salads, bread, apple crisp and beverages.

Norway church to welcome speaker

NORWAY — The First Unitarian Universalist Church of Norway, 479 Main St., will welcome the Rev. Sarah Shepley at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 15. Shepley will present “Passenger Seat: A Deepening of Faith through Loss.”

She will tell her story of the events leading up to the loss of a family member this summer and the reflection that arose from the experience. She will share poetry and insight as well.

Memorial hymn service planned

RUMFORD — A memorial hymn service will take place at 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, at the Rumford United Methodist Church, 455 Linnell St.

Loved ones will be honored with hymns, scripture and a poem. Fellowship and light refreshments will follow the service. The service is open to the public. To submit a name or for more information, call Kathy at 392-1285.

Church invites children to Sunday School

NORWAY — The Second Congregational Church, UCC, 205 Main St.,  is inviting children of all ages to join the Sunday School program. The theme this year is “Welcome to God’s Family, Follow Jesus Home.”

Each month a new story of the Bible will be introduced and will be taught using a different type of creative media each week, such as art, music, theater and technology. The program is offered at 10 a.m. each Sunday.
