DEAR SUN SPOTS: Our family watched “Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color” on Sunday nights in the 1960s. One of my brothers would love to see the episodes titled “Sancho, the Homing Steer” Are they available in VHS or DVD format? — M.D., Oxford
ANSWER: Sun Spots had no luck in finding your movie. In fact, many of the old Disney shows appear not to be available on DVD. Perhaps that will change in the future.
By the way, there is a book called “Sancho, the Homesick Steer” (note the slight difference in the title). Copies of that used book are available cheaply on Amazon, or local dealers may have a copy.
It appears to have been written about 10 years after the movie appeared, so maybe the author was just hoping to capitalize on Disney popularity. But it would be interesting to see if the stories are similar.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: How long has Keith Carson been the weatherman on Channel 6? I feel he hasn’t been there that long.
I remember that Rob Caldwell was married to Cindy Williams’ sister. Did they divorce?
Could you tell me about Stephen King’s series “Haven.” It said it was started on July 14, but I haven’t seen it. Is it still on Channel 50? They are having reruns on Channel 155. Thank you. — Laura, [email protected]
ANSWER: Keith Carson came to WCSH in 2010. He left in July for the Weather Channel.
Rob Caldwell has been at WCSH 6 since 1982. Sun Spots does not know about his marital status. Several local TV celebrities have refused to answer personal questions due to security concerns and asked her not to publish information about their families.
As for “Haven,” it’s an original series on the Syfy channel (Sun Spots doesn’t know what number that would be for you). Syfy.com says season 4 will premiere at 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I watch “Keeping Up with the Kardashians” on Sunday nights. The show is hilarious, and I enjoy it very much.
Kris Jenner has a new talk show on TV. I was wondering when it’s on and what channel. Is it on every day like “Ellen” or “Dr. Phil”? Thank you. — C.G., Lewiston
ANSWER: “Kris” was on at 3 p.m. every day during the summer beginning in mid-July on select Fox channels, and those episodes are now available online at YouTube. Sun Spots could not find anything about whether it will be on TV again.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Sexual Assault Prevention & Response Services, historically known in Androscoggin County as SACC, will begin a new support group for women who have experienced sexual abuse and sexual assault, whether as children or adults, recently or in the past.
The group will meet on Wednesday evenings in Lewiston, beginning on Sept. 11, and will continue for 20 to 30 weeks. There is no cost to attend.
Making the choice to talk with others who have gone through the trauma of sexual assault is not an easy decision. Sometimes survivors don’t realize the extent to which sexual assault has impacted their lives until they start putting the pieces together with the help of a support group.
Often survivors of sexual assault blame themselves in some way, feel ashamed to say anything, have been threatened to remain silent, or think they won’t be believed. Many survivors of sexual abuse and sexual assault are affected by depression, anxiety, fears, ongoing flashbacks, difficulty trusting others, alcohol and drug use, sleeping problems, self-harm and misdirected anger.
Talking with other survivors assists in letting go of self blame and shame, finding one’s voice and using healthier coping skills in daily living.
The group will use the book “The Courage to Heal” by Laura Davis, as the basis for discussions. Books will be provided to participants.
Many survivors of sexual assault who have participated in SACC support groups note that the group was a significant positive step toward taking their life back and moving forward in the healing process. One survivor said, “To look into the eyes of others who understand what it means to be sexually assaulted, be believed, share one another’s pain, and growth, ask questions, and be given options to grow and heal is a life-changing experience.”
