LEWISTON — Memorial services to commemorate the anniversaries of the terrorist truck bombing of the U.S. Marine Corps barracks on Oct. 23, 1983, in Beirut, Lebanon, and the terrorist boat bombing of the USS Cole on Oct. 12, 2000, at the refueling docks in Yemen will be held at noon Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Lewiston Veterans Memorial Park.
As a result of the bombing in Beirut, 241 U.S. Marines and Naval personnel lost their lives. Seventeen crew members of the USS Cole lost their lives.
The program will include patriotic songs, invocation by Rev. Dr. Stephen Crowson of Trinity Episcopal Church, the history of the U.S. Marine Corps by Mayor Robert Macdonald and details of the bombings by Jerry Der Boghosian, president emeritus, USS Canberra Association.
Members of all area veterans organizations and the public are invited. The service will be held rain or shine.
