Federation of Blind conference

AUBURN — The National Federation of the Blind of Maine will hold its annual conference on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25 and 26, at the Fireside Inn, Washington Street.

The group will get together from 4 to 10 p.m. Friday for a night of socialization, cards and games. Food can be bought from the restaurant at the inn.

The group will hold a conference from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The theme this year is “Dare to Live Your Dreams.” Registration will be from 8 to 9 a.m. The cost is $30, which includes coffee and pastry in the morning and lunch.

Gary Wunder from the national federation will be the main guest speaker and there will be many other demonstrators and speakers. Table exhibitor space is still available at a cost of $30.

Eight to be inducted in Ski Hall of Fame

AUBURN —  The annual Maine Ski Hall of Fame induction banquet will take place Friday, Oct. 25, at Lost Valley, hosted by the Ski Museum of Maine. A social hour will be held at 5 p.m. followed by dinner and awards at 6:30 p.m.

The Class of 2013 includes three U.S. Ski Team members, one Nordic, one alpine and one disabled, an outstanding high school ski coach, a freestyle pioneer, a leader in Maine’s ski patrol and MARA founder, a Sugarloaf founder, and an outstanding Nordic coach. Their stories give an important insight into Maine skiing and the skiers produced in the state.

This year’s class of pioneers, builders, coaches and instructors is made up of  Bruce Cole, Gail Blackburn, Greg Poirier, Rand Stowell, Craig Gray, Howard Paradis, Randy Kerr and Will Farnham.

Military chaplains group to meet

AUGUSTA —  The Maine Chapter of the Military Chaplains Association will meet at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, in the chapel of Togus VA Medical Center. The topic of training is “Veterans and End-of-Life Care.”

The winter reading program will be discussed and lunch will be provided. Members and interested clergy are invited to attend.

The Military Chaplains Association is a professional support and veterans service organization dedicated to the religious freedom and spiritual welfare of Armed Services members, veterans, their families and their survivors.

Membership is open to all chaplains who are serving or have served in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Department of Veterans Affairs or Air Force Auxiliary Civil Air Patrol. Contact Chaplain Vernon Chandler at 621-7373 for directions or for more information.
