LEWISTON — Jason Burtchell, a physical therapist at Central Maine Therapy Services, 77 Bates St., has earned certification in mechanical diagnosis and therapy through The McKenzie Institute.
The McKenzie Institute in Syracuse, N.Y., is the innovator of the McKenzie Method, an evidence-based approach for assessing and treating people who have neck, back and extremity pain. The goal of the system is for patients to experience symptom reduction under self-guided movements, although the mechanical diagnosis and therapy practitioner may provide manual techniques as needed to assist improvements.
Certification from The McKenzie Institute requires candidates to complete post-graduate courses and pass both written and practical examinations.
Burtchell has practiced with Central Maine Therapy Services for more than five years. He has nearly 15 years experience as physical therapist.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in physical therapy at Northeastern University in Boston.
