DEAR SUN SPOTS: You do an awesome job! Thank you. Perhaps you can answer a question on MPBN programing on Saturday mornings.

I’m wondering why they keep running the Quilt Art series instead of airing Fons and Porter and the Eleanor Burns quilting series. The Quilt Art program just seems to repeat the same topics in every series they air.

I would really like to see more well-known quilters like Fons and Porter and Eleanor Burns. — S. Levasseur via email

ANSWER: No awesome job this time. Sun Spots failed to get a response to any of her queries — not that she was expecting one. It is very hard to get any broadcast station to comment on the hows and whys of programming.

However, you are not without recourse. A letter-writing (or email) campaign can have good effect. If other Sun Spots’ readers agree with you, they can write to 1450 Lisbon St., Lewiston, ME 04240 or they can go to mpbn.net/About/ContactMPBN.aspx and fill out the online form.

Even a dozen letters can have a huge effect, especially in a niche programming area such as quilting.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Why haven’t I seen Jeff Peterson on Channel 13 news? Has he quit his job there? — Barb, Bethel

ANSWER: According to wgme.com, Peterson anchors “Daybreak” from 5 to 7 a.m. and “Good Day Maine” on Fox from 7 to 9 a.m. He also writes two blogs for the station’s website and a column in the Portland Press Herald called “That Vegan Thing.”

His WGME bio says he’s been in television news in California, New Hampshire, New Orleans and Denver. He’s had had two stints in Maine; the last beginning in October 2006.

Jeff is married with five children and lives in Portland. He is a big fan of the arts, sings and plays trombone, and has sung the national anthem at many sporting events over the years. He’s an avid runner and Nebraska Cornhuskers fan.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Hello to the well-informed lady. Evenings I watch the game show “A Minute to Win It.” The host is Apolo Ohno, and I would like to know about him.

He has nice muscles in his arm, so I figure he must be an athlete. I’ve never heard about him but am interested. Thank you. — Addie Yenco, Lisbon Falls

ANSWER: Wikipedia tells Sun Spots that Apolo Anton Ohno is an American short-track speed-skating competitor and an eight-time medalist in the Winter Olympics. Wikipedia says he is the most decorated American Winter Olympic athlete of all time.

He was born May 22, 1982, in Federal Way, Wash., to a Japanese-born father and Caucasian-American mother. His parents divorced, and he was raised by his father in Seattle and has had little contact with his mother or half-brother.

His father worked long hours in his styling salon and got Apolo involved in skating and swimming to keep him out of trouble. He was a youth champion in both sports, but preferred skating.

Along with “Minute to Win It,” Apolo has appeared on “Dancing with the Stars” and will be a commentator for the 2014 Winter Olympics.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I want to thank each and every one who responded to my Oct. 3 request for magazines to take to nursing homes. The response was outstanding. God bless you all. — No Name, Auburn

HI SUN SPOTS: I wrote a few weeks back about volunteering for jury duty. Just to let you know I got picked! Hooray! Thanks for your help. — Debby, [email protected]
