Free exercise workshop at Dempsey

LEWISTON — The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing is offering a free exercise workshop for cancer patients, survivors and caregivers. “Improving Your Cancer Recovery with Exercise” will take place from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 4, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

Exercise can reduce the risk of cancer development, reduce fatigue and the risk of falls. Jason Burtchell, PT, Cert. MDT, Central Maine Therapy Services, will discuss the how and why of exercise, its relationship to cancer and how to scale activity to ability.

Free Bokwa class on Feb. 5

TURNER — SAD 52 Adult & Community Education will hold a free Bokwa class at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Turner Primary School.

Bokwa is the new fitness craze. It’s different. There is no choreography or counting steps. Draw letters and numbers with the feet while moving with others to music in free-form rhythm. If you can move, you can do it. Bokwa engages all ages in the same class to the same music.

APL to start math club for kids

AUBURN — The Auburn Public Library children’s room will host a pilot math club for kids called the Crazy 8’s Club beginning Thursday, Feb. 6, from 4 to 5 p.m. The six-week program is sponsored by the Bedtime Math Foundation.

Children in grades three through five are invited to join bedtime Math’s Crazy 8’s where they will build stuff, run and jump, make music, make a mess — it’s a totally new kind of math club. They will be exposed to Glow in the Dark Geometry, Bouncy Dice Explosion and the Toilet Paper Olympics, to name a few of the activities planned.

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners at the Lewiston Armory on Jan. 21 were as follows: first, Patricia Garcia and David Lock; second, Jeanine Kivus and Luke Merry; third, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; fourth, Marta Clements and Dick Allen.
