FARMINGTON — The Benevolent Association of the Farmington Fire and Rescue will host the Maine State Federation of Fire Fighters’ 51st annual convention Sept. 5-7.
This is the third time Farmington has hosted the event. The last was in 1994 and brought firefighters and their families from all over New England.
The weekend will feature a comedy performance on Friday, a parade and public dance on Saturday and a firemen’s muster on Sunday, fire Chief Terry Bell said.
Firefighters from Lac-Megantic, Quebec will be invited, he said. Some Franklin County firefighters went to Farmington’s sister city in July 2013 when an oil train derailed and burned, killing at least 47 people and destroying a large area of the downtown.
The Benevolent Association is compiling a yearbook. Members are going to area businesses and organizations seeking advertisements and sponsors for the 85-page book, he said.
