VIENNA — Voters have several town and school positions to fill when they go to the polls from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 7, at the Community Building.

The 2014 spending plan will be considered at the town meeting at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 8, at the Community Building.

All three selectmen, Chairwoman Doris “Dodi” Thompson, Christopher “Chris” Smith and Jeff Rackliff, are seeking re-election to one-year terms. Smith is being challenged by Roger Pelton, Thompson said Thursday.

Town Clerk and Tax Collector Annie Tibbetts is being challenged by former Town Clerk and Tax Collector Connie Smith for both positions. Each position is for a year, Thompson said.

Road Commissioner Dan Goucher is being challenged by Troy Bean for the one-year position, she said.

RSU 9 Director Helen Wilkey is unopposed for a three-year term.

Treasurer Marti Gross is also uncontested.

Voters will have 48 articles to consider. If everything passes, the appropriation for town government will be $520,124, about $13,000 more than last year, Thompson said.

It’s pretty much the same as last year, she said. A couple of road articles for maintenance and paving have each been increased from $55,000 to $65,000, she said. Selectmen made adjustments in other areas to try and keep expenses down.

“Whatever you raise for roads is never enough,” she said.

The appropriation amount does not factor in the town’s share of the 2014-15 RSU 9 budget, which has not been unveiled. School directors plan to begin reviewing the budget March 25.
