The Nezinscot Valley Music Boosters and the Hartford-Sumner Elementary Allied Arts team are sponsoring an “African Adventure” night at the Hartford-Sumner Elementary School on Friday, March 14. Students have been learning about Africa, and will be sharing their work at an open house from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The Scholastic Book Fair will be open in the library from 5 to 6:15 and the Music Boosters are hosting a community potluck dinner in the cafeteria at 5:30. Concluding the evening is a performance of traditional Africa drumming by Michael Wingfield and traditional West African dance by members of the Akwaaba Dance Ensemble. The performance begins at 6:30 and admission is free. The Akwaaba Ensemble brings West African drumming and dance to vivid life. The ensemble is led by master percussionist and teacher Theophilus Nii Martey, pictured, who began studying traditional African music during his childhood in Ghana.
