Thirty cottages, the entire number in the colony at the Maine State Fair Grounds, Lewiston, have been ransacked, the discovery having been made by A.C. Scribner. Mr. Scribner went to his cottage at the grounds, Thursday of last week, and noticed that an upper window in the cottage next to his, owned by Mr. Lowell, had been broken. He mended the window and thought nothing more of the incident until after he returned. In thinking over the matter, he remembered that bureau drawers were pulled out in the Lowell cottage and realized that things seemed in disorder. Investigation showed that every one of the other twenty-nine cottages had been entered either by the removal or the breaking of a window at the front or back of the cottage and in looking thru the windows, it could plainly be seen that general havoc had prevailed.

A five-and-dime store is a thing of the past in this city, and now parking meters costing a nickel or a dime also could become history if the Lewiston City Council approves a proposal to raise all meter fees to 25 cents. The change is recommended for all on-street parking meters. Currently, hourly and 15-minute meters cost 10 cents an hour. The meters generate $25,000 per year, but repairing and maintaining them as well as collecting the proceeds costs the city more than $10,000 per year.
