1928 – 2014

FARMINGTON — Viviane Gagnon, 85, of Farmington, passed away Saturday, March 29, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.

She was born in 1928 in Lewiston, the daughter of Juliet Bellemore and raised by Honore and Lucia (Dube) Bouchard. She was educated in the schools of Chisholm and Jay.

In 1947, Viviane married Louis Castonguay, who passed away in 1966. She later married Norman Gagnon in 1979; he passed in 1990.

She was a housewife much of her life, but also worked for local shoe shops, including Bass Shoe while raising four children as a single mother. Viviane resided in Wilton since 1980 and retired in 1985.

She was a Communicant of St. Rose of Lima in Jay and then St. Joseph Catholic Church of Farmington. She enjoyed the outdoors, knitting, sewing, crocheting, reading, working crossword puzzles, doing volunteer work at Franklin Memorial Hospital and taking care of people.

Viviane is survived by her daughter, Louisette Castonguay of Farmington; three sons, Denis Castonguay and his wife, Barbie, of Wilton, Michel Castonguay of Livermore Falls, and Daniel Castonguay of Hermon; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six sisters, Sister Marie Stella CSJ (Anita Dube) of Waterville, Mary Jane Edmunds of Jay, Julienne Shaw of Carnegie, Pa., Claire Edmunds of Phillips, Elaine Smith of St. Hellena, S.C., and Stella Paquette of Amarillo, Texas; a brother, John Dube of Jay; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husbands, Louis and Norman; a son, Jean-Charles; a sister, Mary Anne; and five brothers, Gerard, Lionel, Willie, Charles and Andre.
