KINGFIELD — The trustees of the Stanley Museum announce that Debbie Smith of Weld has been chosen as the new executive director of the museum. She has served as acting director of the museum since August of 2013.
Smith recently retired as a special education teacher in RSU 10, a position she held from 1976-2013. She is the former president of the Maine board of directors of Life Enrichment Advancing People from 1979-2005. She was also the manager of the Kawanhee Inn in Weld from 1988- 2004. She has been active in many local organizations, such as the Weld Public Library and the Weld Congregational Church, and is well-known in the community.
She has served on the board of trustees of the Stanley Museum, and has organized and led steam car tours in Maine and New England. She is currently writing grants and preparing for the Stanley Museum’s biennial consignment auction in Kingfield in September.
She and her husband live in Weld and have both volunteered their time and expertise at the Stanley Museum presently and in years past.
